Wooden Garland: DIY

Wooden Garland: DIY

So you know those beautiful strands of wooden beads you’ve been seeing all over Pinterest and Instagram lately?  You know; the ones that are thrown so effortlessly on the coffee table, with little to no purpose other than to look beautiful?

I have a confession:  I am completely obsessed.

And let me tell you, I have searched far and wide to get my hands on one of these beloved strands, ladies.

My search began locally here in Regina SK, like it always does.  Homesense, Pier 1, Urban Barn, you know the drill; and usually I find what I am looking for but this time I came home empty handed.

Determined; I began my search online as soon as I got home.  I scoured the online stores and to my surprise a strand of wooden beads could cost me upwards of $200.00 CAD.  What?!

There was no way my husband was going to let me spend $200.00 on a decor item for our coffee table.  After all, it is just a few beads strung onto twine (with no purpose other than to look beautiful).

I’m crafty.  I can string beads onto twine.  And thats what a did.  Check out my DIY Wooden Bead Garland tutorial below.  It took 15 minutes of my time, it cost me $11.00CAD to make and best of all, I found all the supplies locally here in YQR.

Here’s what you will need:

4 foot piece of jute twine; I had some lying around but you can find it at Dollarama for $1.00

50-55 large wooden beads; Purchased a package of 150 from Michael’s for $10.00

1 wide eye needle

Scissors

Here’s what you will need to do:

Cut a piece of jute twine; about 4 feet long

Thread your needle with said piece of twine

Feed beads (about 50-55) onto twine

Tie a knot at each end of the strand and voila!

Believe me, your husband will be a lot happier when he hears how thrifty you were! Leave a comment if you would like to see more posts on home decor DIY’s!
